Garlic Spread / Dip – Česneková pomazánka
You can go to most delis in the Czech Republic and they will have this delicious spread. I have been eating it as long as I remember and absolutely love it. It is such a popular party dish.
Tips:
- Perfect on Bread Rolls.
- For shredded cheese you can use Edam (Eidam in CZ), Colby, Monterey Jack, Colby Jack or Cheddar. I also like to use a Three Cheese Blend (Mozzarella, Monterey Jack and Cheddar Cheese).
Makes: 8 ounces (230 g)
Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 ounces (55 g) cream cheese
3 soft cheese wedges (for example Laughing Cow brand)
¼ cup (50 g) mayo
2 large garlic cloves
Pinch of salt
½ cup (50 g) shredded cheese
Sliced red peppers (optional garnish)
Directions:
- Into a medium sized bowl put 2 oz cream cheese cut into small pieces. Add 3 soft cheese wedges and ¼ cup mayo. Using a garlic press, press 2 peeled large garlic cloves into a bowl and add a pinch of salt. Mix really well with a hand mixer.
- Add ½ cup shredded cheese and mix all together.
- Spread onto a piece of bread and garnish with a slice of red pepper or use as a dip.
First things first: I am a garlic lover! This recipe is just awesome. We had some spreads just like this one in Czech Republic, never that good! If you like raw garlic, try this. It is to die for, seriously! Moc dekuji Kristyna!

I made this when my kids and grandkids came to our lake cottage over Labor Day. They liked the dip–I didn’t tell them what was in it.

We call it Česneková pomazánka shortly Česnečka.

My friend hosts a garlic nosh every fall. Each guest brings a food that features garlic and someone judges the recipes and award prizes. It’s lots of fun! Many of the guests are gardeners so there are lots of interesting dishes. Next year I am going to take this one – thank you!
